Summer is almost here and with it comes fun in the sun, get-togethers, late nights, and often a cocktail (or several). Instead of indulging in alcohol, which can negatively affect literally every part of the body, try these delicious mocktail recipes made with natural, health-supportive ingredients. They provide a bit of fun and a lot of function, to help you not only enjoy yourself but also feel good about what you're putting in your body. Cheers to a happy and healthy summer!
Mocktail Recipe Basics:
The general rule when mixing mocktails is a 4:1:1/2 ratio. This simply means that you will use 4 parts of a "base", combined with 1 part "sour/acid", and 1/2 part "sweet". This ratio can be adjusted to create a variety of flavors to suite your preference but is typically a good starting point for any mocktail beverage. Beyond that, you can then add functional ingredients or garnishes as you wish and, of course, add ice. Here are a few ingredient ideas for each category, but feel free to get creative!
BASE | SOUR/ACID | SWEET | GARNISH/HERBS |
100% Fruit Juice | Lemon Juice | Raw Honey | Citrus Wedge or Zest |
Seltzer Water | Lime Juice | Maple Syrup | Mint, Rosemary, Basil |
Coconut Water | Orange or Grapefruit | Agave Syrup | Lavendar or Rosehips |
Black, Green or Herbal Tea | Ginger Beer or Juice | Stevia, Monk Fruit, Xylitol or similar | Herbal Tinctures, Medicinal Mushrooms |
Kombucha | Apple Cider Vinegar | Coconut Syrup or Simple Syrup | Berries, Melon, Cucumber, Ginger |
